US
government forecasters downgraded Earl from its
tropical storm status after it hit maritime Canada. The storm still left one dead and nearly one
million
people without power in North Eastern Canada.
Pakistan
floods: UPDATES
Over 15 million people are
affected by Pakistan’s floods. At least 1,600 have died according
to Pakistan
Government estimates. The full severity of the floods needs yet to be
fully assessed.
The number effected is greater than those in the 2005 South Asia tsunami (5 million), the 2005 South Asia earthquake
(3 million), or the 2010 Haiti earthquake (3 million). An estimated of
290,000 homes
have been destroyed or seriously damaged.
